CIO Gets Elevated To Board Seat
One client went through a transition and a new company president
was brought on board. During the transition, the new president's
direct reports were asked to communicate their roles, responsibilities
and program priorities in one-on-one presentations.
Each of these direct reports brought in a standard PowerPoint
presentation. Each … except our client.
Rather than develop a long slide show of details, we started by
analyzing the opportunity and goals. Rather than focus on what
we guessed the new president wanted to hear, we honed in what
our client wanted to achieve in the meeting.
Her goal was ambitious; she wanted her role and the company's
technology function represented on the Board of Directors.
With this in mind, we eliminated PowerPoint and developed an interactive,
inspiring presentation that branded her group's capabilities and
involvement with business issues impacting the company.
Our plan was to show how technology was integrated throughout
all business functions and needs, while contradicting a stereotype
about technologists promoting new technology for the sake of technology.
In contrast, we showed technology was supporting valuable business
functions.
The presentation involved a model supporting this branding effort;
it was built before the president during the presentation. The
very unique approach achieved the goal as he asked her to participate
in Board of Director meetings.

love to generate that kind of presentation power for you too.
